Summer tyres come off the car, winters go on, and the four wheels that are not in use take up half the balcony or a corner of the cellar. That is when people start looking for tyre storage in Bratislava: somewhere dry, out of the sun, and open whenever you decide it is time to swap.
Below: which unit suits a set of tyres and which suits wheels on rims, why you rent for a year rather than a season, what it costs today, and how to get the tyres ready.
First, plainly: a storage unit is not a tyre shop
We rent self-service storage units. We do not change, balance or take in your tyres at a counter, because there is no office and no staff at our sites. You bring the set and collect it yourself.
That is also the advantage: you reach your tyres 24/7, every day of the year, without booking a slot. Swap them wherever and whenever suits you, and pick the set up on a Sunday evening if that is when you have time. Which units we rent and in what sizes is set out under unit types and sizes.
A set without rims: a small indoor unit is enough
Tyres without rims are bulky but light, and they do not need a container. The smallest indoor unit free today is H50A at Holíčska 7 in Petržalka: 0.99 m², 1.19 m³, 0.93 × 1.06 m inside, 1.20 m high, door 0.80 × 1.00 m.
A normal set of car tyres goes in standing side by side or stacked. Before you order, measure the tyre's diameter: the door is 0.80 m wide, and with large SUV sizes a few centimetres decide it. What else fits in a small storage unit from 0.99 m² is covered separately.
Indoor units hold a comfortable temperature in summer and winter, and no sun reaches the tyres, which is the difference from a balcony. One thing for the carrying: the units at Holíčska are at ground level on a terrace, but the car stays in the outside car park and you enter the building with a personal code from your account. Wheels on rims or two sets: a container you can drive up to
Wheels on rims are heavy, and carrying four of them across a car park and down a corridor is nobody's idea of fun. For those the right choice is an outdoor unit, meaning a ground-floor container you can drive right up to. Open the boot and unload straight in.
One is free today at Pionierska in Nové Mesto: unit P9, 3.60 m², 9.36 m³, 2.40 × 1.50 m inside, 2.60 m high, door 0.80 × 2.00 m, on the ground floor with car access to the unit. By our own size guide, 3–5 m² takes a whole balcony or cellar: bicycles, skis and tyres.
Containers of the same size are free at Dúbravka as well (D50, D53, D56), but they are on the first floor, up the stairs. You drive onto the site, then carry the wheels up. That is fine for light tyres without rims, and not for wheels on rims. How the two levels differ, and what else a container copes with, is explained in storage container rental.
A container is not heated or air-conditioned. Tyres cope with cold; what harms them more is direct sun, heat sources and contact with oils and solvents. A closed, dark container is better for rubber than a balcony. If you want an even temperature all year, take an indoor unit.
Why a year, not a season
This is where people overpay most often. The tyres alternate, the unit does not: winters sit in it through the summer, summers through the winter. One set is always in storage, so you use the unit for twelve months even if you think in seasons.
Prices move daily with how full a location is, so this is a snapshot of 12 September 2026, and the live figure is always in the storage price list. Monthly rate for a term of 1 / 3 / 6 / 9 / 12 months:
- H50A, indoor unit 0.99 m², Holíčska: 38 / 35 / 33 / 31 / 29 €. A year comes to 348 €.
- P9, 3.60 m² ground-floor container with drive-up access, Pionierska: 77 / 71 / 66 / 57 / 49 €. A year comes to 588 €.
- D53, 3.60 m² first-floor container, Dúbravka: 75 / 70 / 64 / 56 / 48 €. A year comes to 576 €.
Renew H50A month by month and the year costs 456 € instead of 348 €: 108 € more for the same space. And driving right up to the door at Pionierska costs only 1 € a month more on a twelve-month term than the stairs at Dúbravka. On top of the rent there is a deposit of one month, returned within 5 working days once the unit is handed back.
How to get tyres ready for storage
- Wash and dry them. Mud and road salt do not belong in the unit, and wet rubber in a closed space starts to smell musty.
- Pick the stones out of the tread and look for cuts and bulges. Then you will not find out in spring, at the tyre shop, that you need new ones.
- Check the tread depth before the trip. If it is close to the limit, buy new tyres out of season, not in the week of the first snow.
- Mark the position with chalk or a tag: front left, rear right. At the next swap you can rotate them.
- Tyres without rims are best stored standing up and turned now and then. Wheels on rims go stacked flat or hung.
- No fuel cans, no oil. Flammable goods are forbidden in the units, and oils and solvents damage rubber.
The usual mistakes
- Renting month by month "just for the season". The set sits in the unit all year, so on H50A you pay 38 € a month instead of 29 €.
- Wheels on rims on the first floor. You save 1 € a month and carry four heavy wheels up the stairs at every swap.
- Not measuring the diameter. A tyre off a large SUV may not pass a door 0.80 m wide. Measure it at home.
- Wet, dirty tyres into the unit. After half a year they smell, and the road salt stays on the rubber.
- Only one driver has access. Add the second driver's number in the account; up to nine extra numbers can be added per location.
When to choose a different unit or term
- One set without rims, and you live near Petržalka. A container is more than you need: H50A at Holíčska is 29 € a month, the cheapest container 48 €.
- You carry wheels on rims, or sets for two cars. The indoor unit is small and you would carry everything from the car park. Take a ground-floor container with car access to the unit, today P9 at Pionierska.
- Bikes, sledges or garden tools join the tyres. One square metre will not do; take a 3.60 m² container, 2.60 m high. How to prepare a bicycle for off-season storage is a separate article.
- You need someone to change the tyres as well. A storage unit will not do that; there are no staff on site. Book the swap at a tyre shop and collect the set from your unit at any hour.
How to go about it
- Measure the tyre's diameter and width, and settle whether you are storing tyres alone or wheels on rims.
- A set without rims: pick an indoor unit from 0.99 m² at Holíčska in the price list. Wheels on rims: a ground-floor container.
- On the location page, filter by car access to the unit itself, so only the units you can drive up to remain.
- Choose a 12-month term: one set is always in storage.
- Fill in your details and a phone number in international format, +421. That number opens the site gate; at Holíčska you enter the building with a code from your account.
- Pay by card, bank transfer or QR payment. The contract is concluded with the first payment, you get your access details at once, and the whole thing takes about 10 minutes.
- Add the number of the second driver in your household in the account.
- Bring clean, dry tyres and lock the unit with your own padlock; a sealed one comes free.

Will a set of tyres fit in a 1 m² unit?
A normal set of car tyres, yes. Unit H50A is 0.93 × 1.06 m inside and 1.20 m high. The door, 0.80 × 1.00 m, is what decides it, so measure the diameter of larger tyres.
Can I drive up to the unit with my tyres?
To ground-floor units with car access to the unit, yes, for example P9 at Pionierska. At Holíčska you park in the outside car park, and at Dúbravka you carry the wheels up to the first floor.
Do you change tyres too?
No. There are no staff at our sites; we rent the unit only. You can reach your tyres 24/7, so you can collect them any time before your tyre shop appointment.
Will the cold in a container damage my tyres?
The container is unheated, but tyres cope with cold; direct sun, heat and oils are worse for them. If you want an even temperature all year, the indoor unit at Holíčska is also the cheapest option today, from 29 €/month.
