Self storage in Bratislava: how it works | TOP SKLAD

You have typed self storage in Bratislava into Google and got back logistics halls, garages and warehouse space, none of it what you meant. Behind it is usually a flat with no cellar, a gap between two leases, or a hallway of ski gear. In Slovak this is a samoobslužný sklad.

Below: what it is, how it differs from a cellar or a warehouse, what it costs today, how the paperwork works in English, and when not to rent.

What self storage means in Slovakia

You rent one lockable unit, put your own padlock on it and hold the only key. The site, areál in Slovak, is a fenced yard with recorded CCTV, open 24 hours a day all year, with no staff.

It is not logistics: no courier deliveries, nobody packs or carries anything. Types and sizes are on the self storage unit types and sizes page.

Self storage, a cellar, a garage or warehouse space

  • The pivnica in your block. Free if your flat has one, and hard to beat. Also damp, shared with the whole block, and rarely covered by your household policy.
  • A garage rented privately. A longer arrangement, the owner keeps a key, no cameras and no insurance.
  • Warehouse space, skladové priestory. From tens of m², a long contract, a notice period. For three pallets, too much floor and paperwork.
  • Self storage. From 0.99 m² to 28.8 m², from one month, any hour. Dearer per m² than a hall, but you pay only for the floor you use.

Two types of unit: the kobka and the container

  • Indoor unit, kobka in Slovak. A room inside a building, comfortable temperature all year. The smallest today is 0.99 m²: H50B is 0.93 by 1.06 m, 1.01 m high, 1 m³, door 0.80 by 1.00 m. They exist only at Holíčska 7 in Petržalka and Tomášikova 50D in Nové Mesto. Sizes in the small storage unit from 1 m².
  • Outdoor unit, a container. A converted, ventilated shipping container from 3.5 m² to 28.8 m², up to 3 m high inside, so you can stack. D53 in Dúbravka is 3.6 m², 2.40 by 1.50 m, door 0.80 by 2.00 m. Not heated and not air conditioned, which we say before your records spend a January there. Ground floor takes a car to the door; the first floor, up stairs, is cheaper. Details in storage container rental in Bratislava.

What may go in is set out in what you can keep in a storage unit: no food, nothing alive, flammable or illegal, and no vehicles.

What it costs and why the number moves

The floor for the network is 25 € a month, a floor and not an average. The rest depends on the site, the type, the level, the size and occupancy, which shifts prices daily. The exact amount is on screen before you confirm.

Rental length moves it most. Monthly rates read on 4 September 2026, for terms of 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months:

  • H50B, indoor 0.99 m² at Holíčska: 38, 36, 34, 31, 29 €.
  • T14, indoor 2.56 m² at Tomášikova: 100, 95, 89, 84, 78 €.
  • D53, container 3.6 m² in Dúbravka: 76, 70, 65, 56, 49 €.

So one month costs about a third more per month than twelve: book the term if the boxes stay until spring. The smallest indoor box is also the priciest per m², roughly 19 to 21 €/m² against 9 to 12 €/m² for a big container. For a few weeks, read short-term storage for one month.

On top of the rent comes a deposit, kaucia, of one month's rent, paid once and back on the same card within 5 working days of a proper handover. Insurance up to 2 000 € against theft, fire and vandalism is included; higher cover costs 4.50 € a month up to 5 000 €, 7.50 € up to 7 000 €, 12 € up to 10 000 €.

Doing all of it in English

The site, the order form, your account and the agreement are in English, and so is support: the form in your account, info@top-sklad.com within up to 5 working days, phone or WhatsApp. One thing catches newcomers out: the number you register is the key that opens the gate, so give the one you will still be carrying.

Common mistakes

  • Putting frost-sensitive things into a container. Electronics, paper and vinyl belong in an indoor kobka, not in a steel box in January.
  • Choosing the size by eye. Every unit page lists length, width, height and the door: measure your biggest item against the door, not the area.
  • Typing the phone without the country code. A wrong format means standing outside a fenced yard with a loaded van.
  • Losing track of the end date. If you neither renew nor hand the unit back, we clear it within 3 days: no fine, but no deposit back either.

When you do not need it

  • Your block has a dry pivnica, or a friend has half a garage. Zero euros a month beats every price we have.
  • The things are worth less than the rent. A 3.6 m² container is 49 € a month on the yearly term; if the sofa is not worth that, sell it.
  • You want goods received and dispatched. Nobody works on site; an e-shop sending dozens of parcels a day needs a fulfilment partner.
  • You want to keep a car, food or anything alive. Vehicles are not stored; food and flammables are forbidden.

How to rent one

  1. Measure what is going in and choose: a kobka for anything temperature-sensitive, a container for furniture and drive-up access.
  2. Pick a site, six in Bratislava and one in Nitra, and a term: 1, 3, 6, 9 or 12 months, or to a date.
  3. Fill in the contract data. A company is found by name in the business register and its invoices carry IČO and DIČ; a private person gives name, address, e-mail and phone.
  4. Pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, transfer or QR payment; no cash. The contract starts with that payment and the documents land in your account.
  5. Take the access details: the gate opens when you call it from your registered number. Lock up with your own padlock, sealed and free with a new rental.
  6. To finish, empty it by 17:00 on the last paid day, take the padlock, upload 3 photos and send the return form.
