An electrician, plumber, tiler or joiner carries every tool in the van because there is no room for them at home. At night the van full of drills and saws stays outside the block of flats, and in the morning the materials for the next job get repacked on the pavement. A tool storage unit near your route solves both: the tools do not spend the night in the van and the materials wait somewhere dry until you need them.

Why tools should not spend the night in a van

A van parked outside your home with a set of cordless tools is an easy target, and the van's insurance often does not cover the tools in it. Add frost, which is hard on batteries in winter, and damp, which rusts anything not dry by spring. In a unit the tools sit behind your own padlock, the site has cameras with recording, and only you have the key.

The second reason is time. If the unit is on the way between home and the jobs, in the morning you load only what you need today and the van does not carry extra weight all day. Unit types with dimensions and doors are on the page storage unit types and sizes.

Which unit suits a tradesperson

• A ground floor container with the van at the door. At Pionierska in Nové Mesto, at Dúbravka (D5) and in Nitra the van stops right at the door and you unload straight in. First floor containers are cheaper, but you will not want to carry heavy tools and materials up the stairs.
• 24/7 access. The gate opens with a call from your registered number, even at five in the morning before the first job. At Holíčska a personal code opens the building door instead.
• A 3.60 m² container (2.40 × 1.50 m) takes a rack of tool cases, a stepladder, a mixer, a compressor and a few bags of material. A 7.20 m² container (3.00 × 2.40 m) also takes the tiles, profiles or boards for a whole job.
• 2.60 m of height under the steel ceiling: ladders, battens and profiles up to that length stand upright, longer stock lies along the wall.

Materials between jobs: what survives frost

Containers are ventilated but unheated, and it freezes inside in winter. Metal tools, tiles, bricks, profiles and timber cope, as long as they are dry. Other things do not:

• Tile adhesive in tubs, water-based paints, fillers and acrylic sealant marked to protect from frost ("chráňte pred mrazom" on Slovak packaging) belong in an indoor unit with a comfortable temperature at Tomášikova or Holíčska.
• Batteries for power tools should not spend months in frost; take them home or put them in an indoor unit. The same goes for measuring instruments and lasers.
• Cement and dry mixes are not harmed by frost but are by damp: on a pallet, not on concrete, with the bags closed.
• The floor takes 500 kg per m². Spread a pallet of tiles rather than putting it on one spot.

What a tradesperson may not store

Point 3.3 of our terms forbids flammables, pressure vessels and petroleum products. For a tradesperson that means no gas bottles for a torch, no petrol cans for a generator or mower, no thinners or solvent-based varnishes, no engine oil in cans. Insuring your tools

Insurance up to €2,000 is included in every rental. But the value of what is in the unit should not exceed the cover, and a professional tool set soon costs more. So when you rent, choose cover up to €5,000 for €4.50, up to €7,000 for €7.50 or up to €10,000 for €12 a month. If your tools are insured elsewhere, send us confirmation of the policy in writing.

Seasonal things of small premises

• A café or bistro summer terrace: tables, chairs, parasols and heaters without gas bottles. For the winter a 14.40 m² container with a 2.25 × 2.30 m double door on the ground floor.
• Exhibition stands, roll-ups and samples between events, which need only a shorter rental.
• Stock bought in bulk at a better price that would otherwise fill the shop.

Which unit and what it costs as of 22 October 2026

Prices are per month for a 1 / 3 / 6 / 9 / 12 month term, excluding VAT; 23% VAT is added where the location's landlord is VAT registered: always in Nitra, in Bratislava for companies with a VAT number. They change with how full a location is, and you always see the exact amount due before paying.

• Tools with the van at the door: a 3.60 m² container at Pionierska (P9, P13, P14), ground floor: €75 / 69 / 64 / 56 / 48.
• Tools and materials for a job: a 7.20 m² container at Dúbravka (D5), ground floor with the car at the door: €108 / 103 / 98 / 92 / 87. • A café terrace over winter: a 14.40 m² container at Pionierska (P36): €169 / 157 / 145 / 139 / 133, six months €870. In Nitra N2 with 20% off: €132 / 122 / 113 / 109 / 104, six months €678.

Common mistakes

• A first floor container for heavy tools. You save a few euros and carry everything up the stairs every day.
• Adhesives and paints in a container over winter. Once frozen they are often fit only for the bin.
• Batteries in frost all winter. They lose capacity; keep them warm.
• Expensive tools on the basic €2,000 cover. Choose higher cover when you rent.
• A gas bottle for the torch or a fuel can for the generator in the unit. Our terms forbid them.
• Renting as a private person when the invoice should go to your business. Choose to rent as a company and find it by name.

When to choose a different unit or term

• You only have cases of hand tools and measuring instruments: you do not need a container, a small indoor unit kept warm will do.
• The materials are for one job lasting a few weeks: take a one-month rental or "Custom period / Exact to the day" (at least 32 days), not a year.
• You work mainly around Nitra: the containers there are on the ground floor with the car at the door, and 7.20 m² costs less than in Bratislava.

How to go about it

1. Write down what stays in the unit all the time (tools) and what only between jobs (materials).
2. Set aside what must not freeze: adhesives, paints, batteries, instruments.
3. On the site choose a location on your route and, with the car access filter, a ground floor unit with the car at the door.
4. Choose to rent as a company and pick insurance to match the value of your tools.
5. Pay. In about 10 minutes the contract, the invoice and the access details are in your customer account.
6. Lock the unit with your own padlock. On a monthly rental you can switch on recurring card payment so you never have to think about renewing.
