The tiles you bought in a sale are stacked in the living room, bags of adhesive sit on the balcony and plasterboard leans against the hallway wall. Until the tiler turns up, you walk round your own flat sideways. When you look into building material storage for a renovation, three things decide the right unit: how the material copes with frost, how heavy it is and how long the longest piece is.

Below we sort the material first, then choose the floor, the size and the door, show prices as of 18 September 2026 and list the mistakes that cost the most.

Sort it first: what takes frost, what does not, what is not allowed

Our outdoor units are converted, ventilated shipping containers. They are neither heated nor air-conditioned, so in winter it freezes inside just as it does outside. The indoor units at Holíčska 7 in Petržalka and Tomášikova 50D in Nové Mesto are inside buildings and stay at a comfortable temperature all year. An earlier version of this article recommended a container without saying that it is unheated. For paint and adhesive that is exactly what matters, so we now say it plainly.

• Fine in a container: bricks and blocks, tiles, stone, metal profiles, pipes, timber and OSB, bathroom fittings and tools. The cold does not hurt them as long as they are dry.
• Indoor unit: anything whose label says to protect it from frost ("chráňte pred mrazom" on Slovak packaging), which means water-based paints, adhesives in tubs, ready-mixed fillers and acrylic sealant. Once frozen, they often end up in the bin.
• Dry mixes in bags such as cement, tile adhesive and plaster are not harmed by frost, but damp ruins them. Put them in a container only sealed and on a pallet, never on the concrete floor, and check the date printed on the bag.
• Not in any unit: thinners, solvent-based paints and varnishes, petrol or diesel for machines, gas cylinders and aerosol cans, expanding foam included. Our terms forbid flammables, chemicals, petroleum products and pressure vessels, in the indoor units as well.

If you need a warm space and a cold one, you do not have to pay for a large indoor unit just to keep bricks in it. Tubs of paint and adhesive fit into the smallest indoor boxes at Holíčska: a box of 0.99 m², 1.01 or 1.20 m high, costs 37€ for one month and 29€ a month on a 12-month term. Everything else goes into a container.

Heavy material: the floor matters more than the price

At some sites the containers stand on two levels. At several of these you can drive right up to the door of a ground-floor unit, and the unit list marks these "Yes (to storage unit)". The first floor is up the stairs, costs less and is meant for things you can carry.

With a suitcase of winter clothes the difference is small. With dozens of bags of adhesive, pallets of tiles or a load of bricks, it is the difference between unloading the car once and spending the whole day on the stairs.

As of 18 September 2026 the only free units in Bratislava you can drive right up to are at Pionierska in Nové Mesto: containers P9 and P14 of 3.60 m², and P36 and P38 of 14.40 m² with double doors. The free 3.60 m² containers at Dúbravka are on the first floor, up the stairs. The price gap on a 12-month term is 49€ a month at Pionierska against 48€ at Dúbravka, a difference of one euro.

Indoor units suit heavy loads less well. At Holíčska the car stays in the outside car park and everything is carried through the building; at Tomášikova you drive onto the site but still carry things to the unit door. Measure the longest piece and the door

Square metres tell you little here. For building material, the inside length of the unit and the width of the door decide. Every unit page lists its length, width, height and door size.

• 3.60 m² container: 2.40 × 1.50 m inside, 2.60 m high, door 0.80 × 2.00 m.
• 7.20 m² container: 3.00 × 2.40 m, same height and door. N41 in Nitra has double doors of 2.25 × 2.30 m.
• 14.40 m² container: 6.00 × 2.40 m. P36, P38 and K23 have double doors of 2.25 × 2.30 m.
• Indoor units: door 0.80 × 1.95 m; the longest one free today measures 2.90 × 1.40 m (T16 at Tomášikova).

Store plasterboard, OSB and timber flat on level battens, not leaning against a wall, or they will bow over time. A sheet of plasterboard or OSB longer than 2.40 m will not lie flat in a 3.60 m² container, so you need 7.20 m² with its 3.00 m length. Material on pallets belongs in a unit with double doors of 2.25 × 2.30 m; through a door 0.80 m wide you will be carrying it in piece by piece.

How to stack tiles, bags and tools

• Tiles stay in their original boxes, standing on edge. In a tall flat stack the bottom tiles carry the full weight and can crack. Keep the labels facing out so you can read the type and batch.
• Spare tiles from the same batch. Tiles from another production batch can differ in shade. A spare box kept in storage saves you when a single tile cracks years later.
• Bags go on a pallet or battens, never on the floor, and only as many as you will use before the date on the bag.
• Shelving has to stand on its own. Our terms forbid drilling or welding the walls, ceiling and floor.
• Tools go on the shelves and fixings into labelled boxes. With 2.60 m of height, that puts the space above the material to use.

What it costs as of 18 September 2026

Prices change daily with occupancy. This is a snapshot as of 18 September 2026; the current figure always shows before you confirm an order and on the current storage price list. Monthly price on a 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12-month term:

• P9, P14, Pionierska, 3.60 m² container on the ground floor, drive up to the door: 76€, 70€, 65€, 56€ and 49€.
• D47, D50, D53, D56, Dúbravka, 3.60 m² container on the first floor, up the stairs: 74€, 69€, 64€, 55€ and 48€.
• H50A, H50B, H50C, H50D, Holíčska, indoor box of about 1 m² for paint and adhesive: 37€, 35€, 33€, 31€ and 29€.
• K27A, K27D, Kaukazská, 7.20 m² container on the first floor: 108€, 103€, 97€, 92€ and 86€. In Nitra, N41 of the same size is on the ground floor with double doors, at 85€, 80€, 75€, 69€ and 64€.
• P36, P38, Pionierska, 14.40 m² on the ground floor with double doors: 171€, 159€, 147€, 141€ and 135€.

A three-month renovation in P9 costs 210€ for the whole term, while paying month by month would come to 228€. For tradespeople and building firms

A building day starts early and ends when the job is done. Access to the site is 24/7, every day of the year, and the gate opens when you call from your registered number. In your customer account you can add up to nine more numbers per site, so the foreman or the crew can fetch material without you.

A delivery from the builders' merchant can come onto the site too: under our terms, cars and lorries up to 12 m long and 4 m high may drive in. When you order, a company is found by name in the business register and its details fill in by themselves. An invoice with IČO and DIČ for every payment appears in your customer account. How businesses use a unit day to day is covered in business storage units.

The most common mistakes

1. Paint and adhesive left in a container over winter. In spring they go in the bin. They belong in an indoor unit.
2. Bags straight on the concrete. Damp from the floor sets the cement in the bag like stone. A pallet costs less than new bags.
3. Plasterboard leaning against the wall. Over time it bows. Store it flat.
4. The cheaper first floor for heavy material. On 3.60 m² you save one euro a month and lose a day on the stairs.
5. No spare tiles from the same batch. Years later, new tiles from the shop may not match the shade.
6. Shelving screwed to the wall. Our terms do not allow it. Use a free-standing rack.

When a different unit or term suits you better

• The material arrives on pallets. You want a ground-floor unit with double doors and drive-up access, not the first floor. Today that means P36 and P38 at Pionierska, or N41 and the larger N5, N9 and N10 in Nitra.
• You are storing mostly paint, adhesive and filler. Those do not need a container; the smallest indoor box at Holíčska is enough.
• The renovation will take a month or two. Do not take 12 months for the lower monthly rate. Take 1 or 3 months and extend in your account if the work runs over.
• You have thinners, gas cylinders or fuel. None of our units can take them. Leave them in the workshop or buy them on the day they are needed on site.

How to go about it

1. List the material and split it three ways: container, indoor unit, and what may not go into storage.
2. Measure the longest piece and estimate how many pallets and bags there will be.
3. On the location page, look for units marked "Yes (to storage unit)" and compare inside dimensions and doors.
4. Choose the term: 1, 3, 6, 9 or 12 months, or exactly to a date.
5. Fill in your details and pay by card, bank transfer or QR payment. The contract starts with the first payment, you get your access details at once, and the whole order takes about 10 minutes.
6. Add the numbers of the foreman or crew in your account so they can open the gate.
7. Bring pallets or battens for the first unload, and lock the unit with your own padlock.
8. When the work is done, clear the unit by 17:00 on the last paid day, upload 3 photos and send the return form. The deposit comes back within 5 working days.
