Come autumn, the scooter becomes the thing nobody in the flat has room for: it trips people up in the hallway, gets rained on out on the balcony, and sits in the damp of the shared basement if the building has one. If you are working out how to store an electric scooter in winter, start with the battery rather than the place. Wet and road salt harm any scooter; frost harms an electric one most. After that, only two things decide it: the height and door of the unit, and how many months you need it for.

Below, in order: what to do with the battery, how to prepare the scooter, which unit takes one folded e-scooter and which takes the whole family's, and what it costs as of 28 September 2026.

The battery: home for the winter, or an indoor unit

The frame, wheels and brakes will get through a winter in an unheated space. A lithium battery copes far worse: in frost it loses capacity, and charging it while it is cold can damage it for good. So the first question is where the battery spends the winter, and only then where the scooter does.

On most ordinary e-scooters the battery sits inside the deck and does not come out without tools. That means the scooter winters wherever its battery winters:

• At home, if you have the space. Folded, the scooter stands in the hallway and the battery stays warm.
• In an indoor unit at Holíčska 7 or Tomášikova 50D. These units are inside buildings kept at a comfortable temperature in summer and winter, so an e-scooter can spend the winter there whole, battery included.
• In a container only without the battery. Our containers are ventilated but unheated. If the battery comes out, take it home and leave the scooter in the container. If it does not, a container is the wrong choice for an e-scooter.

Before storing it, charge the battery to the level the manufacturer recommends for long storage in the manual. That is usually a partial charge, and never a fully flat battery. Check and top it up now and then, and when you bring the scooter in from the cold, let it warm to room temperature before you plug it in. Prepare the scooter

• Clean and dry it. Mud and road salt on the frame, in the bearings and in the folding joint keep working all winter. Do not hose down an e-scooter; a damp cloth is enough.
• Pump up the tyres to the pressure printed on the sidewall. On solid tyres, check for cracks.
• Check the brakes and the folding mechanism. A drop of oil belongs on the hinge, never on the brake disc.
• Fold it and lock the fold. Folded, it takes the least room and will not spring open while you carry it.
• Cover it with something breathable. A fabric cover or an old sheet, yes; plastic sheeting, no: condensation collects underneath.
• The charger and any removable accessories go home with you.

Which unit: height and door, not floor space

A folded scooter needs very little floor. What matters is whether it gets through the door and whether it can stand up inside, so look at the height and the door when choosing, not at the price per square metre.

The low boxes at Holíčska are not for scooters. They start at 29€ a month, but they are only 1.01 to 1.20 m high with a 0.80 × 1.00 m hatch. They are for helmets, pads and gloves, not the scooter itself.

The smallest unit a folded scooter stands in is T57 at Tomášikova: 1.20 m², a floor of 1.20 × 1.00 m, walls 2.60 m high and a 0.80 × 1.95 m door. The scooter goes through that door even unfolded, and there is room beside it for a helmet and a box of summer things. As of 28 September 2026 these small indoor units with the same wall height are free too:

• H17 and H22, Holíčska, 1.82 and 1.85 m², floors of 1.46 and 1.48 × 1.25 m: several folded scooters plus helmets and chargers.
• H43 and H44, Holíčska, 2.25 m², a floor of 1.25 × 1.80 m: the whole family's scooters and a bike standing upright.

Today's price list has one oddity worth knowing: the roomier H17 and H22 cost 49€ a month on a six-month term, while the smaller T57 costs 50€. Prices move with occupancy, so check the storage unit price list on the day you order. At Tomášikova the unit is on the ground floor and you can park on the site. At Holíčska you enter the building with a personal code and leave the car in the outside car park, but you can end the season's last ride right at the unit.

The whole family's scooters: a container

If several children's scooters, a balance bike and a couple of bicycles all need a winter home, a 3.60 m² container works out better than several small units. Its floor is 2.40 × 1.50 m, it is 2.60 m high under a solid steel ceiling, and the door is 0.80 × 2.00 m. • P9, P13 and P14, Pionierska in Nové Mesto: ground floor, and you can drive right up to the door.
• D47, D50, D51, D53 and D56, Dúbravka, Polianky 15: first floor up the stairs, with the car on the site.

A container is not heated, so it suits ordinary scooters and electric ones only without their battery. You will not want to carry a heavy e-scooter up the stairs in Dúbravka either; for that, Pionierska with the car at the door or an indoor unit is the better fit. If what needs a winter home is a motor scooter or a motorcycle rather than a kick scooter, skip the container. Those go only into the indoor units, where the 0.80 m door and the room from the door inwards decide, as explained in winter motorcycle storage.

How many months: winter is half a year

Scooters go into storage in the autumn and come out in March or April. We rent for 1, 3, 6, 9 or 12 months, or exactly to a date you choose, so you do not have to pay for a whole year. The longer the term, the lower the monthly price. On unit H22, as of 28 September 2026:

• 1 month: 54€
• 6 months: 49€ a month, 294€ in total
• 12 months: 44€ a month, 528€ in total

So the six-month rate covers the winter. A year pays off if the unit will not stand empty in summer: in spring the scooters come home and the sledges, skis and winter tyres take their place. What it costs as of 28 September 2026

Prices change daily with how full each site is, and you always see the exact price before confirming the order. Monthly price on a 1, 6 and 12-month term:

• T57, Tomášikova, 1.20 m²: 56€, 50€ and 45€.
• H17, H22, Holíčska, 1.82 and 1.85 m²: 54€, 49€ and 44€.
• H43, H44, Holíčska, 2.25 m²: 71€, 65€ and 60€.
• D47, D50, D51, D53, D56, Dúbravka, 3.60 m² container on the first floor: 73€, 63€ and 47€.
• P9, P13, P14, Pionierska, 3.60 m² container on the ground floor: 75€, 64€ and 48€.
• H50A, Holíčska, 0.99 m² box for helmets and pads: 37€, 33€ and 29€.

With the first payment you pay a deposit of one month's rent, returned within 5 working days after you hand the unit back properly. Insurance of your things up to 2 000€ is included. For an expensive e-scooter you can raise the cover to 5 000€ for 4.50€ a month, to 7 000€ for 7.50€, or to 10 000€ for 12€.

Common mistakes

1. An e-scooter with its battery in a container. The container is unheated and the battery loses capacity in frost. Battery home, or the whole scooter into an indoor unit.
2. Charging straight after the cold. Let the battery warm to room temperature first, then plug it in.
3. A flat battery for the whole winter. Charge it as the manual says and check it now and then.
4. The cheapest box. The boxes from 29€ are 1.01 to 1.20 m high with a 0.80 × 1.00 m hatch; a scooter does not belong in them.
5. Hooks drilled into the wall. The terms of rental forbid drilling into the walls, ceiling and floor. Stand the folded scooter against the wall.
6. A wet scooter under plastic. Condensation collects under the sheeting all winter, and by spring the bearings are rusting.

When a smaller unit or a shorter term will do

• You have one e-scooter. No container needed: T57, or H17 and H22, where it winters with its battery.
• You ride all winter. Keep the scooter at home and store what gets in the way in winter instead: summer tyres, a bike, garden furniture.
• It is only helmets and pads. They fit in a box from 29€, and the scooter stays at home.
• You only need it until spring. Do not take a year; six months or a rental to an exact date is enough.
• The scooters are ordinary, or the battery comes out. You do not need a warm indoor unit: a 3.60 m² container holds them for less per square metre, and the battery goes home.

How to go about it

1. Find out whether your e-scooter's battery comes out, and count how many scooters and what else will go into storage.
2. Choose the type by the battery: a fixed battery means Holíčska or Tomášikova, ordinary scooters can go into a container.
3. On the location page, compare the floor, height and door of the free units.
4. Choose the term: 6 months for the winter, or exactly to the date you will want it back.
5. Fill in your details and pay by card, bank transfer or QR payment. The contract starts with the first payment and you get your access details at once; the whole thing takes about 10 minutes.
6. In your account, add the numbers of anyone who will come to the scooters with you.
7. Charge the battery as the manual says, clean and fold the scooter, bring it over and lock the unit with your own padlock. We give you a sealed padlock as a gift.
